Mark Hummel & the Blues Survivors

When: Wed., June 30, 9 p.m. 2010
Price: $10, $12

Blues harmonica master Mark Hummel was one of the founding fathers of the EastBay blues revival in the '70s. He's still a ferocious player and charismatic showman, and while he's become identified with his annual Blues Harp Blowouts, he still commands the stage when he's leading his long-time band the Blues Survivors. His current lead guitarist, Rusty Zinn, is a long time Hummel collaborator with a West Coast-meets-Chicago style that compliments Hummel's trademark combination of swing and soul. They'll be showcasing some the blues classics they cut on Hummels' recent Retro-Active album. Mark Hummel & The Blues Survivors with Rusty Zinn play Wednesday, June 30, 9 p.m. at Ashkenaz(1317 San Pablo Ave., Berkeley). $10, $12 Ashkenaz.com
