When: Fri., Sept. 20, 7 p.m. 2019
Mystery writer Mark Coggins updates the San Francisco gumshoe while paying homage to Jack Kerouac in The Dead Beat Scroll. The murder of his former partner spurs private investigator August Riordan to delve into his friend’s last missing-person case. Riodan runs afoul of a polyamorous family bent on possessing a newly discovered manuscript by the author of On the Road. Fans of Robert Crais’s So-Cal sleuth Elvis Cole will find a similar vibe transported to the Bay Area. An accomplished photographer, Coggins has worked for a number of Silicon Valley computer and venture capital firms, including Netscape and Hewlett Packard. He will appear in conversation with Randal S. Brandt, curator of the California Detective Fiction Collection at the University of California, Berkeley.
