Re: “Opinion: UC Berkeley Shouldn't Prohibit Right-Wing Speech, Even When It’s Racist and Hateful

Among zealots on either extreme, they share 99.5% of their DNA. Views and values among the extremes though share little to nothing, other than a desire to seek out violent conflicts with the folks who are physically less than 1% different than they are.

Somewhere between the extremes lies a position that aligns with the views that majority of the population can support. All of us with beliefs that lie within the spectrum between the philosophical poles should work to agree on a few things. Support for free speech, zero tolerance for violent protests, and other sensible positions.

Until then, democracy will be messy.

Re: “Updated: Opposition Emerges Right Off the Bat to A's Laney Ballpark Plans

In response to Gary's analysis that the site should not be considered "downtown", this is how Laney College describes itself on its website @ http://http://laney.edu/about/ as:

"Located in the heart of vibrant, multicultural downtown Oakland, Laney features the cosmopolitan atmosphere and human energy of a big-city university."

Parking at all universities is a major constraint that restricts practical accesss to education. Local neighborhood impacts are inevitable, just as certain gentrification will evolve whether the stadium is built or not. Exclusive to promoting greater access to education and increasing revenues for the system, the parking infrastructure investments in the area that would come with the stadium can only be positive for citizens seeking education.

I prefer Rob's strategy for ensuring the representation of the greater community amidst the inevitable progress that the entire SF Bay Area region is experiencing as the epicenter of innovation and transformation today.
