Re: “Federal Judge Blocks Oakland from Removing Homeless Camp

Charlie - we did not establish the encampment at e12 &23rd ave. we were offered the land by the administration after city council unanimously voted to do so. but rather than move forward with us in good faith, the administration (without talking to us) herded 6 encampments from five neighborhoods. members of these encampments were in deep crisis and had life long and even intergenerational tensions between each other. and rather than stop the herding, OPD has continued to pick up individual homeless folks and dump them on the land with the threat that id they leave they will be arrested. the land is over crowded and we were never allowed the opportunity to have control of the site nor the opportunity to build up our program there. but what we have done over the past year was attempt to stop people from killing each other, advocate fro the residents of that encampment for basic sanitation services (with the mayor herself has refused), provide food & water, be first responders to murders and fires, get people to their doctors appointments and court dates. none of us get the six digit salaries of the city officials who's job it actually is to serve or as they like to say "manage" the encampment. we are all volunteers and man of us are homeless ourselves. your angers correct, but please direct it to the people responsible for the horrific and inhumane conditions the unhoused residents at east12 have been forced to endure and the impact it has had on the surrounding community. due to their ill faith and ill fated actions the administration has been pushed by city council to grant us a new parcel of land on miller ave where we will be actually be manifesting out vision of an emergency shelter village with services.if you are interested in getting involved with our volunteer efforts at e12 or any of the services and advocacy we provide at 40 encampments thorough Oakland feel free to contact me 510-355-7010. in fact there will be a all volunteer and all community paid trash clean up at the e 12th site tomorrow starting at 9 am and again on Saturday at 10am as the city does not take care of the massive encampment it created

Re: “East Bay Cities Struggled as the Unsheltered Crisis Deepened

the village is getting ready to build again. the city administration is releasing a one acre plot of land to us in east Oakland, and private land owners will also release their lands to us. the village is 100% volunteer and donation based. please follow us on facebook @The Village in Oakland #feedthepeople if you want to help build or volunteer on site. and if you can please donate to our go fund me https://www.gofundme.com/shower-the-people…. we have also put out a call for doors! we will build perimeters around the villages to provide protections and privacy to the residents. get at our fb inbox if you have a door to donate. we will take new or used doors. thanks so much for continued coverage of this human rights crisis. #HousingIsAHumanRight #HomesForAll #HomelessnessIsNotACrime

by the way - the united nations will be in Oakland in less than a month to document the human rights abuses that local government, law enforcement agencies and xenophobes inflict upon our unsheltered neighbors. The Village and HAWG and other homeless advocates have repeatedly told the city that their practices and policies were in violation of both civil and human rights. but they wouldn't listen.

Re: “Oakland Approves 'Safe Havens' for Homeless Camps and Services

Great article Darwin. One correction: we didnt use scrap materials. We used brand new materials bought by residents of oakland. And the frames were constructed from pallet spots.

Re: “Vinyl Nightclub Wrongly Blamed for Shooting in Downtown Oakland

The owner of the pizza place/arcade is a racist. When i found out an arcade opened up across the street from the closed down oak tree i told everybody!!! Theres anew arcade. There was an influx of black youth and their parents that lasted two weeks before youth were no longer allowed. Stating it was a 21and over spit...
.but its a pizza parlor....hes a super dooper gentrifier who co owns more than one of these new hipster businesses that cater to the elite and wanna be elites.he probably has his eye on the vinyl.

Theres alot of racist remarks on here. Remarks that ylu wouldnt have ever heard in the commemt section of the east bay express prior to gentrification

And that pizza place owner. Thats staright while privledge. He thinks he can do whatever the fuck he wants to. Maaaaan! Pre ge trification white people were never allowed to walk around oakland that bold. Pre gentrification oakland white people knew how to talk to a black business man like he was a grown ass human being. I
