Comedy drama
Cate Blanchett puts on more than a dozen disguises, then stands in front of art-writer-director Julian Rosefeldt’s camera loudly announcing a series of quasi-political artistic manifestos. If this sounds interesting to you on the face of it, you might be able to salvage something from this high-concept art piece. This reviewer, however, was lulled into a false sense of insecurity by the actress and her shrill performances and couldn’t wait for it to end. Arguably a showcase for the changeling Blanchett, Rosefeldt’s German-Australian production hammers when it should insinuate, and struts when it should glide (95 min., 2015, not rated) (K.V.)
