Years before they were sent tumbling, the World Trade Center twin towers in New York were the scene of a crazy but life-affirming stunt. On August 7, 1974, French daredevil Philippe Petit tightrope-walked between the towers for 45 minutes (eight crossings), 1,350 feet above the pavement. Director James Marsh’s fascinating, invigorating documentary recalls the feat, with astounding period film by Petit and his stoned support crew (who hid out with their gear on the roofs of the North and South Towers) and present-day testimony by Petit, who declares: “You have to exercise rebellion” (94 min.).
