Make the Dream Real

When: Mon., Jan. 20, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. 2014
Price: free
Believe it or not, Martin Luther King Jr. Day wasn’t instituted so you could take that long-awaited ski trip or spend an afternoon watching Mindy Project reruns instead of going to work. This year, celebrate King’s legacy, and those who are working to keep it alive, with Attitudinal Healing Connection’s sixteenth annual Make the Dream Real event, a yearly celebration and community meal at McClymonds High School (2607 Myrtle St., Oakland). This year’s iteration features an awards ceremony, musical and other performances, and a keynote speech by Shakti Butler, founder of World Trust, a nonprofit that uses film to promote racial understanding. Mindy can wait.
