Re: “Is Oakland Animal Services Killing Too Many Dogs?

Yes, good idea. Bash a shelter that gets unwanted animals, abused animals, dangerous animals and have very little resources in this economy. Why not bash people who still breed pits and chihuahuas (two over represented breed at the shelter)? Lets focus on the real problem: irresponsible breeders and owners.

I am a proud OAS volunteer and have seen the wonderful things it has done. I adopted an abandonned pit bull mama. She and her day old pups were starving to death. She had not eaten in nearly a week and no one thought she or her pups would survive. Yet OAS did not throw in the towel. They nursed her and her pups back to health. Her two smallest pups went to foster where they thrived and all 10 of her babies got homes.

I have also seen Martha Cline reach out to search and rescue for our special high energy, hard to adopt dogs. The dogs that go to search and rescue have a home for life- guarenteed! Her job is supposed to be part time and that is what she is paid for, yet I know she and Megan work way more hours than they are paid for.

We cannot save every dog, cat, rabbit and chicken until people stop breeding and start adopting. So lets not bash a shelter that tries and instead work with them to make things better.
