Re: “Oakland City Council Discusses the Housing Crisis, But Action Still Awaits

THIS "Road Map" IS A JOKE!!!!
Save for distressed elderly and disabled home owners, this is a road map to keep Oaklands low income black folks renters. In the 131 page "Road Map" there is no mention of how to convert these working class Oakland citizens into home owners. For example, finance and credit education. As long as you are a renter, you are vulnerable to be displaced at the whim of the landlord.

As long as folks are kept in the low income renter status, the majority of whom will be herded from West Oakland, Downtown, and Lake Merritt, to parts East, mark my words, they will be a consistent and stable source of income for the owners, or administrators of "low income housing"

This plan would have had more creditability if it included a plan to educate and empower. Imagine for a minute if instead of Oakland adding more restrictions to condo conversions, it sponsored a rent to own program were over a period of 18months lets say, renters educated in the ways of personal finance were able to have their rent applied to a down payment for the purchase of a property. Guess what, low income renters become empowered home owners.

Lastly, do you want to live in a low income Oakland or an EMPOWERED OAKLAND?
