Despite a few minor setbacks and a short hiatus, Chicago rapper Lucki Camel has stayed true to his sound and has always found a way back to music. At 17 years old, Camel, who previously went by Lucki Eck$ and now Lucki for short, blew up in the underground hip-hop realm with his debut mixtape, Alternative Trap. Even though he is an independent artist, Camel has gained a large following — with more than 1.7 million listens on SoundCloud — for his out-of-this-world beats and mellow rap. “Switchlanes,” a track from his EP, Days B4 II, which was released earlier this year, plays like a note-to-self to remain unbothered by drama. He raps, All these bands and they still ain’t what it seem, aye, whoa / All them tears and you still mean nothing to me / It’s how it goes, it ain’t just me. For one night, Camel will be at Complex Oakland as part of his Days B4 Tour.
