LovEvolution, the massive annual ambulatory rave "electronic music party and parade", is packing up and moving to our side of the Bay this year, according to the Examiner. Deemed too unruly for downtown San Francisco (!!) after a spate of nightlife-related violence here and elsewhere, the event was widely rumored to be cancelled in what would've been its seventh year when organizers failed to finalize sites elsewhere in SF. But never fear, neon-hot-panted masses: Oakland to the rescue! Specifically, the Oracle, which will host the event on September 24. Better stock up on glowsticks, guys.

History-laden thrillers, intellectual capers, a romantic heroine with a Ph.D, a murder mystery penned by a MacArthur Genius: This summer’s best books — many of which have local authors and settings — are equal parts brainy and beachy.
