Strong and steady is the best way to describe the approach Los Lobos has taken toward crafting a critically respected legacy that's also garnered a throng of devoted fans dating back to the band's early '70s origins. Its fusion of Latin folkloric music and Americana-influenced rock once again was brought to the fore of its most recent outing, The Town and Country. Written more in the first-person as part of an album-wide story arc, the band's eleventh studio album featured musical styles ranging from raucous rave-ups and salsa-flavored blow-outs to killer boogie, soul, and edgy funk-rock. Currently pulling material together for an early '09 studio date to start working on a new album, expect to hear plenty of multi-genre blending. Multi-talented instrumentalist and hired hand David Lindley opens these shows at the Fillmore (1805 Geary Blvd., San Francisco) on Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6. 9 p.m., $39.50.
