Re: “Alameda Mayor In Hot Water Over Racially Insensitive Comments

We are 4th generation Pilipino-American family here on the island, from the West side to the east and even Bayfarm! Since the early 70's, my father has opened up our house to help families get their start in their first year in the US and I will always be grateful for this experience. Mayor Trish not only has Pilipino friends but she is family to us and have always "got down" with us with the white rice and other Pilipino food! Heck, she is the 1st one that takes that 1st slice of the leche plan! In our family, if we see another family member, the first thing we do is hug them and kiss them, that is how we treat our family. I believe no other culture can be closer and maybe that has to do with the whole 300 years of Spanish influence which there are extreme similarities in our language, food and culture. I was more insulted that this was not advertised in the newspaper so that all Pilipinos are aware of this event. It seemed there was a selected group that was invited to this event. I know for a fact that the older Pilipino Navy retirees were also upset that they were not invited or informed of such an event. I would have love to attend it, but only found out about the event after the fact. It would have been nice for all of the Pilipinos of Alameda to take part of this wonderful partnership.
