Little Potato’s Dongbei-style cuisine, a rarity in these parts, comes from China’s cold, wild northwest provinces. It’s robust fare, salty and sour, and privileges wheat over rice. If you can answer yes to the question "Does this dish look like it belongs in a German restaurant?" then you should order it: smoked pork with leeks, the succulent Dongbei-style short ribs tinged with anise, dumplings stuffed with ground pork and celery. Break up the monotony of the dark soy-based sauces with a delicate lamb and pickled cabbage hot pot or crunchy stir-fried shredded potato and green pepper.
