Behind a typically organic performance by Catherine Keener, the dramatized true story of Connecticut home owner Susette Kelo and her eight-year fight to keep her little pink house from being bulldozed by eminent domain ā€“ on behalf of developers working for pharma-behemoth Pfizer ā€“ fits neatly into the Silkwood file of underdog heroism. Quixotic little guys battling big money is a natural for writer-director Courtney Balaker (Can We Take a Joke?), who also wrings appropriately gritty perfs from Callum Keith Rennie, Colin Cunningham, and Jeanne Tripplehorn, as a university president turned corporate hitwoman. Keener, as usual, proves herself as one of the most captivating character actors in the business (98 min., 2017, not rated)
