Lil Tuffy Second Annual Retrospective

When: Jan. 13-30 2010
Price: free

Lil Tuffy
What do the Radio Reelers, Clorox Girls, Mistreaters, Dirtbombs, Dwarves, Dictators, Raconteurs, Hoodoo Furies, and Arctic Monkeys have in common? How about Wolf Mother, Holy Ghost Revival, Flosstradamus, Vampire Weekend, tThe Dead Weather, tThe Mall, Mute Math, Supergrass, TV on the Radio, PereUbu, and Human League? Anyone who enjoyed Lil Tuffy's show of silkscreened rock posters last year will want to check out the two hundred200 or so pieces in this Second Annual Retrospective (which includes many new works from the prolific and versatile Mr. Tuffy--posters, handbills, flyers, and even unique overprinted proofs that were unusable commercially but make fine abstractions). Fifties- and SSixties-style commercial illustration and photography meet pop, op, psychedelic, punk, and Dada in this compendium of graphic design that manifests a wide variety of band-appropriate attitudes. Lil Tuffy runs through January 30 at KuhlFrames+Art (412 22nd St., Oakland). 510-625-0123 or KuhlFrames.com -- DeWitt Cheng
