Crime drama, Dark comedy
Two dumb yobbos kidnap a rich man’s wife for ransom but he doesn’t want her back. Not exactly a brand new premise, but it’s good enough for actors Jennifer Aniston, John Hawkes, Tim Robbins, Yasiin Bey, and screenwriter-director Daniel Schechter to crank up the mirthful criminality of Elmore Leonard’s novel, The Switch – a title they should have kept. All the principals look like they’re having fun, and the support by Isla Fisher (the rich man’s mistress), Will Forte (the wife’s would-be lover), and Mark Boone Junior (the kidnappers’ crazed accomplice) is first-class. A brisk combination of bloodshed and pratfalls (94 min.).
