Re: “Hunting With a Rat

I am a meat eater and am not against hunting...but that means hunting with a purpose (to respect the animal you are killing and to eat it). Latham, on the other hand, is not a hunter...he is a Neanderthal. He hunts while drinking, shoots from his truck, kills animals he wasn't even hunting for (the coyote, the skunk), and kills a wild boar that was sleeping??? What kind of hunter is he? He has no skill or consciousness.

What Latham describes as hunting is a socially acceptable way to describe killing for its own sake. Narcissistic exhilaration. But what is to be expected from the man who created a motorcycle club that has it's major reputation from being a place to get drunk and watch his theme-based fights: drunks versus stoners, Jews versus Gentiles, punks versus hipsters, property owners versus graffiti artists, "chick fights", clowns versus mimes, college-educated versus high school drop outs, etc.

Latham obviously finds pleasure in the act of killing and in doing so, relishes his abuse of power, in the same way that dictators and psychopaths do. In each case, the ability to hold a life in your hands and to crush it at whim for blood sport... a defense-less animal...is beyond any talent or true hunter's skill.

There are five recognized stages of hunting:
1) Shooting stage: getting the shot is most important
2) Limiting out stage: trying to get the most possible animals shot
3) Trophy stage: shooting only targeted species or prized targets
4) Method stage: i.e.: moving from a gun to a bow and arrow, studying signs of the animal, learning to track
5) Sportsman stage: no longer interested in killing, but in appreciating the outdoors, sitting amidst wildlife, and respecting and appreciating the nature around you.

Latham is stuck at stage 1 in which pulling the trigger is all that matters. Sad.
