Re: “Dog Park Divides Lake Merritt

Could somebody give me a source for "40% of Oakland houses have dogs". This is seems inflated for sure.

I like well behaved dogs. I'm am not a dog hater or owner.
My wife happened to be bitten by a dog off leash in a campground recently, this isn't a total game changer,
but bad stuff can and does happen with dogs.

I have two young daughters who I take to parks.
I used to live right next to the Hardy Park dog area, so I spent a lot of time there.
At Hardy Park and area around, rules aside, in reality, many dog owners were not that responsible: dogs not leashed, not controlled, large dogs in the tot area, "Don't worry he won't bite", dog poo where families picnic, dog fights, actual dangerous dogs in the playground with my toddler, and I'm open to dogs, really. Some owners just not even aware that they are walking all over others. Ok, this wasn't the end of the world I admit, things kinda/ maybe/ maybe not worked BUT ultimately I don't think the dog owners lived up to their side of the deal. And Hardy dog park does smell and is dirty.

I don't think there should be a dog park at MacArthur and Lakeshore it is a center show piece for the city.
This is the center of a busy city.
