Re: “Ringling Bros. Threatens To Pull Circus Out Of Oakland If the City Bans Bullhooks

Has anyone even seen an elephant guide, known as a bullhook? I have. This management tool is designed to be used to tap the elephant to provide guidance on what is expected. You cannot talk to an elephant as humans are not tall enough to be able to do that effectively, as you would with a horse or dog. Individuals who think the bullhook is cruel just simply do not understand its use...and the animal rights radicals are taking advantage of that lack of information.

The elephant guide is a management tool, just as a dog leash or a halter and reins on a horse. To ban the bullhook is to BAN the elephants coming to town! The trainers would have no ability to communicate with the elephants if they could not use the bullhook. That is probably exactly what the radicals want but it would deny families and children the opportunity to experience these majestic creatures. Oakland Council Members need to learn the facts, but not from animal rights radicals who want to eliminate animals in entertainment!
