Re: “An East Bay Queer Artist-of-Color on Orlando's Horrific Nightclub Shooting

"Then there were the politicians, both Democrats and Republicans, who used this opportunity to blame an entire religion for a homophobic man's actions. There was a sense of relief to know that many of my fellow queers know better than this. We were quick to warn the rest of our community not to convert this act of homophobia into acts of Islamophobia."

Contrary viewpoint from Sunni Muslims conference speaker Fahad Qureshi…

Re: “Nextdoor CEO Responds to Racial Profiling Controversy, Announces Changes to Site

"But some in Oakland have argued that these leads have failed to adequately respond to complaints about racial profiling — and in some cases have even silenced people who speak out against profiling on the site."

The leads FAIL to respond to ANY complaints of violations of ND rules in my Berkeley neighborhood. I was recently subjected to about a dozen posts from an unhinged woman who admitted violating the ND policy but insisted it was her right to shame and intimidate. I sent many of these posts to ND, local leads and to a resident who works for ND. The response, CRICKETS.

The issues making ND unsafe sometimes are larger and less complex than racial profiling. The problem is poor, inconsistent or non-existent moderating.

Re: “BART Riders Racially Profile via Smartphone App

Dear Editors,

Please review your data set for Dawn Carraway , she was arrested AGAIN in the downtown BART yesterday.
Please provide the history of her violent assaults and batteries on innocent and unsuspecting passengers, arson, resisting arrest, battery on cops, drug possession and explain why she returns to the downtown BART when released from Santa Rita and John George hospital.

Violent incidents involving the untreated mentally ill consumes 60% of BPD time.

You are not helping society deal with serious problems with your ceaseless, ignorant and divisive racial political rhetoric. It ain't the color of her skin that is an issue, it is the fact she prefers meth over psychiatric drugs.

Re: “Out to Redefine Safety

"Norris described his understanding of safety as centered in equal access to employment, healthcare, and restorative justice. "Our whole public safety approach is an incarceration-first approach," he said. Part of the event will be collectively developing alternatives."

Rubbish! 80% of the activity is a tired, dreary pantomime of catch and release. And the choir of self-appointed advocates continues to get paid to wail and distort the narrative. The remedies these advocates promote are a form of micro-aggressions against victims of crime.

Re: “When Liberals Take Control of Police

Magnus also brought the civil side of crime reduction strategies into the police dept. Code enforcement is the tool of an effective broken windows program.

Re: “Letters for the Week of September 3, 2014

Yo Joyce I only got a few minutes so the list will be short for now.

August 11, 2014 20-year-old Salt Lake City resident and father-to-be Dillon Taylor shot and killed by black cop.

April 2009 Greece, NY licensed gun owner Roderick Scott a 42-year-old black man with the build of a football player shot and killed white 17 year old neighborhood kid Christopher Crevini from across the street. ME report showed Cervini shot in the back. Cervini's cousin testified they begged Scott not to shoot.……
Black governor pardons and commutes sentence of John White convicted of manslaughter for shooting Daniel Cicciaro, 17, point-blank in the face.

blogger uses 15 year of UCR data
Race and justifiable police homicides (use link to see data)…
Back in 2008 I posted about what I called the "Al Sharpton effect": cops shooting white people doesn't generally make the news. That post has gotten a lot of hits recently (roughly 2,000 page views a day, when normally my whole blog gets about 700).
So I've re-crunched these numbers, both to make them more current and to look at the past 15 years, from 1998 to 2012. This is fact 1 of 7 (give or take).
Fact 1: The racial percentage of those killed by police hasn't changed. In other words, police are not more (or less) likely to shoot and kill blacks than they were 15 years ago. (In more academic terms, there is no correlation between year and race, from 1998 to 2012, selecting for whites and blacks).
Before I post the next fact, ask yourself this: what percentage of those killed by police do you think are black?
I ask because because it's good to know if your "facts" are actually based on reality And if the actual facts don't coincide with what you think is true, then you need to reconsider your opinions based on lies. Too many people don't do that.

Re: “Berkeley's Unequal Punishment of Teachers

Jennifer, please explain the exemplary reports on ratemyteacher by students.
your attempts to smear students and parents who want a voice in teacher evaluation is predictable and pathetic.
BUSD is a retaliatory culture, I know very skilled teachers abused by BUSD admin as well as parents who have suffered retaliation, however that does not mean that this teacher assertions are true, and from reading his complaint I am not impressed.
