Drama, Romance
He’s a nebbishy, burnt-out composer of commercial jingles (Dustin Hoffman) who’s an outsider at his daughter’s wedding in London. She’s a lonely underachiever (Emma Thompson) who conducts surveys at Heathrow Airport. They meet by chance, and their majorly maudlin September-November romance passes through several layers of cotton on its way from innocuous to soporific. The cotton is supplied by writer-director Joel Hopkins, with extra padding by supporting actors Eileen Atkins, Kathy Baker, and James Brolin. Could conceivably have been a middle-aged Before Sunrise, but ... on second thought, no way (92 min.).
