Action/Adventure, Comedy, SciFi/Fantasy
Will Ferrell’s body may be flabby but his comic timing is perfect and the writing is sharp in this intelligent but gaudy summer CGI-fest about a professor of “quantum paleontology” (Ferrell) who time-travels with another scientist (Anna Friel) and a redneck dolt (the dependable Danny McBride) to a desert/jungle setting where dinosaurs roam and all sorts of pop-cultural anomalies surface — like the soundtrack of A Chorus Line. Director Brad Silberling (Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events) and writers Chris Henchy and Dennis McNicholas pile on the generally witty gags, and actor Jorma Taccone almost steals the movie as Chaka, a hairy caveman. Loosely based on Sid and Marty Krofft’s ‘90s-era TV series. And yes, that’s Leonard Nimoy’s voice as The Zarn (93 min.).
