Lam Research is based in Fremont, and it makes machines that turn semiconductive material into semiconductors. It’s also one of the biggest companies in the East Bay, although you’ve probably never heard of it. Now, the firm has announced a fourth-quarter loss of $24 million, according to the San Francisco Business Times. The company had already taken steps in November to deal with the downturn, cutting 600 jobs. We won’t know if this will help for a few more months.
