Drama, Suspense/Thriller
Brooding, paranoid, borderline racist LAPD officer Samuel L. Jackson goes cuckoo when a mixed black-white couple moves in next door to his fastidiously tidy home in the San Fernando Valley. What happens next we’ve seen before in such crazy-cop movies as Internal Affairs and Unlawful Entry, but veteran button-pusher Neil LaBute (Your Friends and Neighbors, In the Company of Men) manages to squeeze a few ounces of fresh vitriol out of the policeman’s rampage before it lurches into Straw Dogs turf. Patrick Wilson and Kerry Washington costar as the unlucky newlyweds who offend his sense of order. The screenplay was written by David Loughery and Howard Korder, not LaBute, which may explain the connect-the-dots feel (110 min.).
