Labyrinth (1986) is probably best known as a Jim Henson movie, not to mention the last feature he directed, which pretty much means "Muppets" to most folks. The truth is, though, like Henson's The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth is a nightmarish fantasy that should scare the hell out of children even as it excites them to skittish and outright loud laughter. David Bowie plays Jareth, a musically prone — and devilishly flamboyant — goblin king who kidnaps Jennifer Connelly's baby brother after she makes an ill-considered wish. She, of course, then has to get him back by passing through a magical labyrinth that's even more twisted than the one in The Shining.
Director: Jim Henson
Writer: Terry Jones and Elaine May
Producer: David Lazer, George Lucas and Eric Rattray
Cast: David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly, Toby Froud, Shelley Thompson, Christopher Malcolm and Natalie Finland
