Creative Growth Art Center supports artists with disabilities. With Labor of Love, the Oakland nonprofit collaborated with a similar organization in Japan, Atelier Yamanami. Curated by Tokyo-based gallery owner Yukiko Koide, this exhibit showcases six artists from both places, and the pieces offer a window into their unique, labor-intensive creative processes. Yumiko Kawai, for example, repeats circles in her embroidery, reminiscent of Japanese monks. Susan Janow’s drawings, meanwhile, are composed of a seemingly infinite number of stark lines. Kazumi Kamae makes his clay figures from rice-sized bits, and Hideaki Yoshikawa punctures his sculptures with countless pinholes. Head to the opening event to enjoy the work alongside live music, though you can catch Labor of Love through Nov. 9.

Opening reception on Thursday, Sept. 7, 5-8 p.m., free, 355 24th St., Oakland. CreativeGrowth.org
