A former chef of Borinquen Soul took over the former restaurant’s space inside Two Star Market, ensuring the newfound tradition of Puerto Rican food in the Dimond district could continue. The portions are generous, the hospitality is warm, and the flavors are straight-up, old-school Puerto Rican. You’ll find classics like tostones, green plantains pounded thin and fried to a golden crisp; savory chicken pasteles, meat packets similar to tamales; and soulful stewed red beans that bloom with the aroma of sofrito. But there are also some more crafty creations — including trifongo, a version of mofongo heightened with the addition of sweet plantains and yucca — and rotating specials on the weekends.
