La Misa Negra at E14 Gallery

If you’ve been to The New Parish, chances are you have seen regulars La Misa Negra, whose fusion of cumbia and afro-Colombian sounds is hard to deny. The band is as DIY as the most pinned board on Pinterest: no booking agent, no manager or record label, with members hustling the music biz all on their own. The band is currently fundraising for its second album, with a Kickstarter campaign currently just a few thousand dollars away from the $15,000 goal. This Thursday, the group will play a free gig, in an intimate setting, complete with homemade Colombian food (empanadas, anyone?). They will also be selling LMN merch, and CDs, and all proceeds will go toward the Kickstarter fund.

Thursday, June 1, 6pm, no cover, all ages, 472 Ninth St, Oakland,
