Re: “Slap Hitter: A's Trade 2 solid Starters for 4 crappy Cubs

Seriously - Matt Murton has 40 at-bats so far this year. In parts of three seasons prior to this year he has a career OPS well over .800, and when he had his one mostly full-time year he hit .297 with 13 homers and 62 RBI in 455 at-bats. He has an excellent eye and was leading all of AAA baseball in batting average and On-base percentage when he was last called up.

He is the one guy who could and should be a major league starter from your end of the deal. I am a Cubs fan and lobbied for him to start after that first year (2006) but the Cubs screwed up his development shuttling him back and forth to the minors despite being a Mark Grace-type hitter who was serviceable in the field.

Also, Gallagher - that 8.59 ERA was in 14 innings last year. What a pointless stat to thow out there. He has a solid 7.6 K/9 rate, a 2.23 K/BB ratio and a WHIP of 1.36 along with his average 4.45 ERA. Oh, and he's 22 and has a good arm and good stuff.

Sorry, but this is not a lopsided trade - Harden is great but both Gallagher and Murton are solid starter-level players (right now), and Gallagher is very young with tons of potential.
