Re: “Oakland Councilmembers Accuse Mayor Schaaf of 'Bait and Switch' With Soda Tax Revenue

This is such a Jerry Brown, mod-Dem tactic and Mayor Schaaf was trained by Jerry too. When mod-Dems pull these kinds of stunts, people don't trust Democrats. This distrust is one reason why the country wound up with #45 in the White House.

That sugar tax advisory board needs to be set up ASAP, and not with Ms.Schaaf's hand picks, which tend to undermine what the purpose of what these boards are supposed to do.

Re: “Online Poll Attacks Oakland Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan, Claims False Endorsements for Peggy Moore

Supporters of the current mayor, who represent big corporate development money are obviously trying to get the people who are more progressive out of the running, out of elected seats and away from appointed positions. Their pockets for funds are almost bottomless when compared to grassroots community. This is happening in District 5 too with the council and school board candidates. Oakland 's soul is being sold, but many voters in the hills , who are starry-eyed over this mayor, don't realize what is going on here and will vote our interests away this election .

Re: “Residents Complain AC Transit Turning Downtown Oakland Park Into De Facto Bus Terminal

AC Transit provides a much needed service to the community. Bus drivers need a place where they can take a break and use a restroom too. Do residents want them to go in the bushes or on the street instead? Shorestein Pit is not a solution for this problem either. When these resident car drivers' cars break down, they will wish they had public transportation nearby.

Re: “Oakland's Only Nigerian Restaurant Makes Way for a New Beer Garden

Rumbo's former location on Park Blvd. needs a new restaurant in the Glenview. That spot is vacant.

Re: “From Harborside to Marijuana Legalization to Oakland's New Pot Rules, A Recap of the Bay Area's Wild Weed Week

Corrections on auto spell: Regulations, not relations. ... This is more than a courtesy.

Re: “From Harborside to Marijuana Legalization to Oakland's New Pot Rules, A Recap of the Bay Area's Wild Weed Week

It would be a good idea if the City of Oakland enforced no smoking relations in general before legalization of pot occurs, especially before the legalization of pot as a recreational drug occurs. Nonsmokers of both tobacco and marijuana are at the mercy of unwanted exposure in public places such as sidewalks, parks, bus stops, etc. It would do the City good to curb people's public smoking habits because smoking is detrimental to the lungs regardless of the sustance, especially for children and adults with allergies, asthma, chemical sensitivities, lung problems, etc. This more than courtesy. This for public safety.

Re: “Oakland Bus Stop Battle Continues, Outcome Unclear

The Coalition of the Broadway-Valdez/Pill Hill & Greater Oakland Community to Bring Back Our Bus Stop at 30th & Broadway agrees with AC Transit's recommendation to have the bus stop in front of Summit Bank for pedestrian and traffic safety reasons. The fact that Summit Bank keeps preventing the bus stop's placement and stating that bus riders and people who hang out with bus riders are a safety threat to their customers shows Summit Bank's tunnel vision of what community means to them. Their coded language is racist, classist, and discriminatory on so many levels. Summit Bank is mainly concerned about itself, not what the community really needs. The Coalition includes the residents, seniors, and disabled in the neighborhood and #51 bus riders. It also includes organizations like ACCE Action - Riders for Transit Justice, Block By Block Organizing Network, Sierra Club, Transport Oakland, Urban Habitat, and the Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club who work with the community and support the needs of those who are most impacted by the removal of the bus stop at 30th & Broadway.
