Kinloch Nelson & Kendra Amalie: TomPkins Square 14th Anniversary One Day Only Staff Pick

When: Fri., Oct. 25, 8:15 p.m. 2019
Price: $15-$20.00
TomPkins Square Records is dedicated to the sound of the acoustic guitar, inspired in part by John Fahey’s American Primitive style. Label head Josh Rosenthal relentlessly searches out classic, undiscovered recordings from the fields of Gospel, country, blues and jazz by artists, both archival and contemporary. For this celebration, Rosenthal is showcasing two recent discoveries. Kinloch Nelson has been playing guitar all his life and teaching since 1973. His subtle instrumental style combines roots, jazz, blues and classical music. His recently released TomPkins Square debut is Partly on Time: Recordings 1968-1970. Kendra Amalie is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer and leader of her own band. Her new album, Intuition, takes a kaleidoscopic, musically expansive approach to improvisation — veering from noise rock to pastoral interludes. She’s featured on the TomPkins Square compilation: Ryley Walker Presents: Imaginational Anthem, Volume 9.
