Documentary masters Chris Hegedus and D.A. Pennebaker scale the caloric heights in this entertaining “competition doc” about France’s quadrennial MOF contest (Meilleurs Ouvriers de France), the Mt. Everest for world-class Gallic pastry chefs. Cued to Django Reinhardt-style swing jazz, we follow a French immigrant chef from Chicago named Jacquy Pfeiffer as he and his fellow sugar artists create toweringly fanciful desserts in a three-day test, observed every step of the way by a platoon of judges. When one man’s delicate creation crumbles, everyone on screen breaks into tears. You might do the same. (87 min.)
