Under-the-table wheeling and dealing goes tabletop in Kings, playwright Sarah Burgess’ stinging satire spotlighting four political operatives. Grappling with ideals and salmon appetizers at a fundraising retreat, the ghost of big business — aka, money — looms large. Morals strung up in the tax code hang in the balance. One character, Sydney Millsap, a freshman congresswoman from Texas, is the first African American and the first woman to represent her district and is most battered by competing interests. Among the shows strongest characters — scarily — are two lobbyists. Will they remain mired in the muck of special interests or emerge? Don’t count on truth or logic to win out: Contemporary times shine like a mirror image as no one among them lands on entirely lofty moral ground. Sound familiar? You decide.
