Transforming a hushed room accustomed to whispers into a rollicking nightspot where whoops of joy are welcome, powerhouse jazz vocalist Kim Nalley kicks off the San Ramon Library’s monthly Adventures In Jazz series. The well-curated concerts include violinist Mads Tolling with guitarist Jacob Fischer (Oct. 19), trumpeter Erik Jekabson’s New Orleans Band with vocalist Kenny Washington (Nov. 16), and stylish crooner Nicolas Bearde (Dec. 7). A revelation in any setting, Nalley makes a rare appearance without her working band led by pianist Tammy Hall. Instead, she’s backed by another stellar pianist, John R. Burr, bass maestro Jeff Chambers, and her regular drummer Kent Bryson, who’s deeply versed in the swing, blues, and gospel idioms where Nalley so elegantly resides.
