Re: “Your Daily Lick: The Gun and Doll Show

Hey thanks to Nate and The Express for all the print over the years. Here is my take on No. 2 Killian The Gun and Doll Show.

This is the sequel to American Radio One which was a "Top 50 Release" according to SF Weekly. This album has just as much versatility but this one takes a few more chances, and is a little more theatrical. The second song "Can You Feel It" is about the first female quarterback in the NFL. The second song continues the story of a football player who should have chosen a different profession in 'Cowboy Lingerie Store' The album ends with a girls against cruddy punks fight outside Amoeba records on Haight st. Below is a list of songs and the format that best suits them on the radio dial here in SF

1. Brick Wall KSAN 107.7 The Bone. (Rock) Slow heavy rock with some very traditional riffs thrown in. A story about a middle-aged man not willing to grow up. (Yes, totally autobiographical.) This song is a big hit live. Tim Carter does some great slide guitar on this.

2. Can You Feel It KSAN 107.7 The Bone (Classic Rock) Hard rock sound coming from the hard rock body of Susan on lead vocals. "The first quarterback with back... I will lead my men to victory." Hit her photo gallery for proof of her bad self.

3. Cowboy Lingerie The Wolf 99.9 MHz FM (Fresh Country). The Kind of old country song you would expect to hear at a county fair. Listen for Loren's guitar solo. Ever heard of Chet Baker or Les Paul? This is how guitar solos used to be played.

4.First Born. KITS 105.3MHz FM Live 105.3 (Modern Rock) Chill pop song. Layered heavily with 70s keyboards. Futuristic tale of a fanatic stalker fan who gets a bit of Britney Spears's DNA, has her baby and becomes instantly famous.

5. Skinny Sad Girls 104.5MHz FM KFOG ( Classic and New Pop ) A mid-tempo organic-sounding ballad with acoustic piano setting the pace. The kind of song you could hear Chris Isaak closing a show with.

6.Honest Girl KPIG 1510MHz AM (Alternative) High energy rock. One of the band's favorite songs to play live. Everyone gets this song at the first listen. It was written to try to stop the all consuming feelings of betrayal one gets from a cheating lover. I should have just beaten him up like John Wayne would have done. Sometimes the wrong thing to do is the right thing for you.

7. White Dove 107.7 MHz FM The Bone (Classic Rock) This came out just how we wanted it. Lynard Skynard meets Perfect Circle. With a tale of mass destruction. What true rock band does not have an Armageddon anthem? Remember we grew up with "The only band that mattered." The Clash.

8. I'm Not Bitter 105.3 MHz FM KTIS LIVE 105. (Modern Rock) Dance rock tune smiler to Ministry without the machines. Like a 50s black and white murder mystery, staring two smart-as-a-whip married rocket scientists with murder on their minds.

9.Women Hater's Club KUSF 90.3MHz FM College Radio (Alternative Variety) Pop Ska-sounding dance number inspired by that old childrens' show, The Little Rascals. Remember "The He Man Women Haters Club?"

10. Jungle Ho 87.9 MHz FM Pirate Cat Radio (Underground Radio Format. pretty much anything.) What can I say about this song? " I'll be the George in her jungle, collect all the coconuts give 'em to my baby."

11. What I Hate About Punks. 105.3 MHz FM KTIS LIVE 105. Mid-tempo guitar rock. Girl rock, and our girls really rock on this number. Funny thing is that real punks love this song. They remember a time you couldn't insult a punk: "Did I offend you?"
