Re: “Burners Torched Over Native Party

Many thanks and prayers to the courageous people who confronted this outrage!

I write with pain in my heart and anger on my tongue.

Can this kind of deep appropriation and offensive actions be corrected?

Maybe next generation.

I hope the organizers of this event step back, shut up, and listen.

I am truly outraged at learning of such an event, and hope that organizers and participants do not feel forgiven by a few tears. Take some time, listen to your own truth, already!

It is our collective spiritual blindness, handed down to us by a history racist oppression, that creates our pathways to destruction.

I hope to work in solidarity with the indigenous communities, and hope to take this matter up with individual organizers and participants myself, as this is an issue of dominant culture, for us to resolve within ourselves. We need to hold each other accountable.

I am disgusted, dismayed, and disoriented at the actions of this group. I am further angered by the excuses and the "but I," comments I am reading about in this article.

I do not feel arrogant, I feel embarrassed and ashamed to be so culturally connected to this group.

How could I not see the tell tale signs that this type of event would result from too much insular thinking (mental masturbation)? What could I have done to help prevent this pain, this deep divide that will take years to repair?

Maybe someday, this so-called underground community will examine our collective motives and demand real social justice rather than personal evolution, as an asset.

In Solidarity for Racial Justice and Revolution,

Kerul Dyer
