Kendrick Lamar

When: Tue., March 27, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $27.50

Since the last time Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar came through the Bay Area (in October), a lot has happened. His early-2011 debut Section.80 (which he's now calling a "mixtape") saw an unsolicited surge of critical acclaim; he's gone around the country supporting Drake; and most of all, his cohorts at Top Dawg Entertainment have finally come to share in his success. That means a major-label deal for the "Black Hippy crew" of which he's a leading member, and enough incidental exposure to move him from a small club in Oakland to a larger one across the bay. Whether he's bugging out with dark verses on Drake's Take Care or dropping the final reverent lines on Schoolboy Q's Habits & Contradictions, Lamar continues to shine every time he approaches the microphone. He'll no doubt lean on the strength of Section.80 and his Overly Dedicated EP, and perhaps bring out some new material from his forthcoming LP, Good Kid in a Bad City. At Regency Ballroom (1300 Van Ness Ave., San Francisco) on Tuesday, Mar. 27 at 8 p.m., $27.50,
