Drama
Actors Thure Lindhardt — in the role of a documentary maker from Denmark named Eric — and Zachary Booth — as Paul, a lawyer — put on quite a show as transatlantic gay lovers, circa 1998-2006, whose New York City romance is hampered by Eric’s crack addiction, among other things. Director/co-writer Ira Sachs, who evidently based the story on his own experiences, keeps the focus tight and personal, with strong sex scenes and very naturalistic acting – the dialogue almost seems overheard. The apt supporting cast includes Julianne Nicholson, Paprika Steen, and Souleymane Sy Savane. Sachs (Married Life, Forty Shades of Blue) wrote the screenplay with Mauricio Zacharias. (102 min.)
