Katrina Alcorn

When: Tue., Sept. 3, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: free
Being a working mother has never really been easy, but at this particular moment in time — with the recession’s aftereffects still reverberating through the economy, with people like Marissa Mayer bringing the idea to the fore, with a new op-ed or essay or manifesto popping up seemingly constantly — the particular firestorm that is working while parenting has never seemed so fraught. Katrina Alcorn attempts to cut through some of the noise with her new book Maxed Out, which examines working motherhood from both a personal and a journalistic perspective, and from which she’ll read at Books Inc. Berkeley (1760 Fourth St., Berkeley). She’ll be joined by Joan Blades, whose organization,, works to advocate for and protect working mothers and their families.
