Karabo Poppy Moletsane and Ashara Ekundayo in Conversation One Day Only Staff Pick

When: Wed., Nov. 29, 6 p.m. 2017
Phone: 510-642-0808
Price: Free-$12
Inspired by the streets and inhabitants of her native South Africa, illustrator, graphic designer, and street artist Karabo Poppy Moletsane creates vibrant patterns and portraits. At just 25 years old, she’s already been commissioned by companies such as Nike and Adidas, and founded her own creative agency, Mother Tongue – Creative House, which is dedicated to preserving the African aesthetic. Now she’s been enlisted by BAMPFA to create a large installation in the museum’s lobby, which she’ll discuss with cultural strategist and independent curator Ashara Ekundayo on Nov. 29. They’ll talk about the issues that Moletsane explores in her work, as well as the concept of Afrofuturism.
