Re: “The Uptown Apartments Look Nice, But Are Still Mostly Empty

Actually, There's is a grocery store within walking distance - Whole Foods. The rent is too high for young professionals who would welcome the location and the rent is way too high for the area. A nice, funky, one bedroom with view of lake goes for $950. If uptown offers a 1 bedroom at $950/month it will be filled to capacity in a couple of months. Perhaps the developers should adjust their profit expectations. Also, we - citizens of oakland - should demand accountability and openness from our representatives. What is our ROI on this project? what are the numbers? are the low income units filled? who is using those units?
