Juan Escovedo All-Stars Staff Pick One Day Only

When: Mon., March 11, 8 p.m. 2019
Price: $22

Juan Escavedo at Yoshi's

As rainstorms ravage the Bay Area, Juan Escovedo’s Latin percussion offers a respite from the endless winter, whisking listeners away to warmer environs. Escovedo has spent a lifetime inspiring this feeling. Growing up observing the work of his father, renowned Latin jazz and samba musician Pete Escovedo, the multi-instrumentalist taught himself the bongos, congas, trap drums, and timbales when he was just a child. For years, Escovedo contributed his talents to one of the industry’s most impressive coteries of artists, working with names like Prince, Herbie Hancock, MC Hammer, and Tito Puente. These days, he keeps work close to the family. He writes and records with The E Family, a Latin jazz, pop, R&B-fusion band consisting of his father, brother Peter Michael, and sister Sheila, as well as his solo project, the Juan Escovedo Orchestra. Catch the Orchestra at Yoshi’s in celebration of Escovedo’s 60th birthday. Mar. 11, 7:30 p.m., $22, Yoshi’s Oakland, 510 Embarcadero West, Oakland,
