Re: “JR Valrey Is an Agent Provocateur

this article is very ironically titled, considering that it engages in race-baiting, sensationalism, and, yes, provacateur-ish speculation intended to discredit the community's efforts for greater accountability from the OPD, BART officials, and the City of Oakland. Looking past the fact that JR's viewpoint isn't completely shared by all nonwhite Oakland residents, and that Det. Longmire was outside of Bailey's house, with Bey IV, the night before he was killed, one has to wonder what the intent of the "reporter" was by interrogating valrey on the timing of the phone calls between him and Bey. It sure seemed like the story was trying to implicate him in Bailey's murder. This should come as no surprise to anyone who's aware of the racist coverage of the black community and Oakland in particular, by the Express over the past 25 years. The only time black people make the cover of your rag is when there is an agenda behind it. in the past, the Express has been a pro-gentrification shill, ignored Jerry Brown's dismantling of downtown black-owned businesses (over a 10-year span, which is one of the things Bailey was looking into when he was killed), didnt bother to get any reaction from the black community when it reported on Yusuf Bey's misdeeds, and put a black youth's mug shot on the cover in the hit piece on Youth Uprising. the fact is, OPD is a corrupt, troubled department, BART has no public accountability, the Express is more racist than a KKK BBQ, and JR was targeted because of his past efforts to expose inequality and structural racism. i dont agree with many of JR's statements, but this story lacks balance. par for the course, it seems.
