Joyce Carol Oates Free One Day Only Staff Pick

When: Thu., Feb. 14, 5-6 p.m. 2013
Price: free

From Isabel Allende to Michael Chabon to Daniel Handler to Dave Eggers, countless major authors have graced the lush velvet couches of the UC Berkeley campus' coziest reading room, Morrison Library (101 Doe), for the public "Story Hour" program, since it launched in 2008. And on Thursday, Feb. 14, the program will feature arguably its biggest ticket yet, National Book Award winner Joyce Carol Oates. The topic of the readings are open-ended and left entirely up to the authors -- past speakers have read from published novels, shared notes and works-in-progress, and scrapped the reading format altogether for an intimate conversation with audience members. "And with Joyce there's just no telling," said program coordinator Beverly Ingram. "She'll probably have written several new things within the next two weeks!" 5-6 p.m., free.
