Re: “Oakland Housing Rights Activists Face 8.5 Years in Prison

Joe D,

Whose property? Why dont you look into squatters rights in the US? Its not a matter of opinion its a matter of rights... But entitled jerks gonna hate.

Much love and power to Land Action.

Re: “OPD Responds to Noise Complaints by White Man Against Black Drummers at Lake Merritt, Sparks Concerns About Racial Profiling

I've actually seen this same incident several months ago as well. I believe the guy who complained lives in that very tall apartment building. I was hanging out with my sweetie, and we were enjoying the drum circle enough (frankly I am not a big fan of drum circles, but hey - I also don't like spoiling people's nights) - and I saw this guy screaming and storm up to the very polite drummers. I don't want to belabor the points of gentrification and housing markets, but if you are happy to live in the new livelier Oakland - you gotta take the vibrant with the annoying. I am getting annoyed with yoga pants and slack-liners, but hey would I deny them their fun? Hell no - and I've lived in Oakland a dozen years - not to say that I am a lifetime resident but I've been here enough to see many of the changes and am glad I can now enjoy the lake by the Amphitheater now. I heard this guy mention he recently moved in when he was yelling earlier this year. Maybe one should research before they move to a place - especially if they have to be a buzzkill.

Re: “Occupy Oakland Has a New Way to Communicate with the City

Rachel,
As one of the people who drafted both the proposal and the letter to the city; I'd like to clarify:

The proposal is not to 'ignore' the letters, but to let it be known that the only forum acceptable to discuss them is the General Assembly (so no one document or spokesperson can frame the Occupation in any one way).

Hopefully that clears up any confusion.

Additionally the full text which was handed to the office of the city administrator and to the mayor can be found here:

Solidarity!
