Re: “Richmond Developer Pushes Two Ballot Measures

Obviously, the "reporter" is a Tom Butt fan, and therefore means either he lives in Pt. Richmond- the small , white populations section of Richmond that dominates the city political scene.

Richmond is going broke. Richmond city leaders have a history of corruption and ineptitude. So many residents are in the dark of what the issues are.

I saw the city plan, and it calls for high rise hotels and " Condos" in the South Richmond corridor. Really!!?? You expect us, the families of Richmond, to support a disconnected, un realistic gentrification approach to development and pay the bill??!!

Lets see the issues:

1. The City Manager is earning more than half a million dollar salary!! Perhaps one of the highest in the state among all city managers... Anyone remember Bell, CA!!

2. The plan is appealing towards SF residents and completely ignores current Richmond Residents.

3. The city has MAJOR unfunded liabilities that has downgraded the Richmond's bond rating...WE ARE GOING BROKE!

4. The public school system is one of the worst in the state, and yet has the 2nd largest bond program in CA next to LA....we have to pay for this too!

BUT, residents....its our fault! We allow the Pt. Richmond mafia to lead and do not vote them out, and then when we do, we allow for the radical liberals to call the shots?!

We need to vote an all new approach to this city, and one that focuses on what we have and need here now!

Re: “Oakland Needs a Moratorium on Charter Schools

First of all- How many writers, politicians, public employees, actors, and journalists kids have attended schools in Deep East, Fruitvale or West Oakland areas? At Middle school levels? High school? Let me take a guess...

For a fact- For charters that stay with OUSD, the district keeps the Special Education funding the feds for all SPED kids, even those at charters, AND they charge each charter school a price per head of ALL , NOT JUST SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS, but ALL students at the rate of $700 per head!!!!! Thats quite a few dollars.....where does that go?

Now the kicker...charter schools are public schools yes, and parents who choose to send their kids to charters are taxpayers who, by the way, support OUSD schools via the tax and bond bills. BUT GUESS WHAT? Charter schools in Oakland get NO MONEY from these municipal taxes or bonds that are supported by all Oakland taxpayers- including ...yes that's right- the Oakland parent who sends their child to charter schools!

So Mr. Gammon and all those doubters, the devil is in the details. Moratorium on charters. No this country needs a moratorium on excuses!
