John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask: The Origin of Love Tour

When: Sat., Feb. 29, 8 p.m. 2020
Price: $56
Hedwig and the Angry Inch began its life 20 years ago as an off-Broadway play turned cult film. Over the years, interest in the movie has only increased. A lot of that had to do with the incredible ’70s glam rock inspired soundtrack that actor John Cameron Mitchell wrote with Stephen Trask. To this day, you will be hard-pressed to find a more romantic song than “Origin of Love,” even if it was written from the point of view of a character drowning in their sorrows as a forgotten legend. The movie was also ahead of its time in its portrayal of a transgender rock star, and their journey to self-acceptance and to find love. Mitchell and Trask come to Zellerbach Hall to perform songs from Hedwig, and to tell stories related to this period of their lives. Some are personal, some give a behind the scenes glimpse of the creation of this classic work of art.
