Re: “Overwhelmed

excellent article! Alameda County having the highest per capita incidence in the state of involuntary holds placed on individuals experiencing a mental health emergency — isn't an involuntary hold on an individual the same as
imprisonment? I personally heard from a whistleblower inside John George's Social Service office that the Social Workers at both JG and the other Telecare facilities like Villa Fairmont (Telecare's unholy alliance with Alameda county is not mentioned in your article) are not protecting a patients rights but rather, and I quote "we are here solely to provide legal protection to our doctors so they can administer involuntary care as they see fit...." even though they present themselves as patients rights advocates, etc. I wonder how they can sleep at night, dealing everyday with family, friends, of patients who are finding out (or not) their loved ones are being held hostage and medicated against their will, and misdirecting them intentionally, Punishing people by compelling them to take psychiatric drugs that make them feel bad and harm their health, while falsely believing or pretending the drugs are treating an illness, may force people to change their (outwardly expressed) ideas or their behavior to avoid this punishment, but this is not health care. It's torture!
