Re: “Burners Torched Over Native Party

dear kingkongufulgus,
you seem to be proposing that we get over the past by forgetting it. how about if the first thing we do, as non-natives who are the heirs of 500 years of murder, theivery, and destruction of native culture (in other words, of genocide), is to stop appropriating native symbols, or mockeries thereof, for bullshit like dance parties and baseball teams. that seems like a respectful place to start. i am impressed at the restraint shown by those who crashed the visionary village party. i think a lot of people would have been tempted to respond to the blatant disrespect and flat out ignorance of party organizers and would-be attendees in a much less constructive manner. because this wasn't about a bunch of white kids with no culture trying to learn something by respectfully borrowing from a superior culture. this was a bunch of ignant white kids acting like native culture is a quirky anachronism. like natives are extinct, so who'll care if we dress up in our stereotypes. mad respect to the party crashers.
